How to use the People Hub on the Nokia Lumia 920

Nokia Lumia 920

We show you how to get the most out of Windows Phone 8's People Hub on the Nokia Lumia 920

The People Hub is a central component of your Nokia Lumia 920 – it’s the place where you’ll find all your contacts as well as a feed from all your social networking accounts.
From here you can send messages to single contacts or entire groups across multiple channels including instant-messaging, text messages, email, calls and many more.

In order for the People Hub to work, you’ll need to add accounts to your phone. You can either do this via the settings menu’s dedicated sub-menu or directly from within the People Hub app via its own settings menu.

Either way, the method is the same and you can read our full guide of how to add accounts here.
Once you’ve added accounts you can then add and remove contacts, filter which accounts show what information, configure individual account settings and create both contact groups and private ‘rooms’ of contacts for sharing data.

How to add, edit and remove contacts
  • From the People Hub’s main screen, swipe across until you get to the ‘all’ section
  • To add a contact, tap the ‘+’ icon. Here you can add a photo, name, company, multiple phone numbers and email addresses, select a contact-specific ringtone and add a number of custom details from the ‘other’ category. At each stage, simply type in the details you wish to include and tap the save icon, which resembles a computer disk.
  • To edit a contact simply hold press on the contact within the list and tap ‘edit’, this will take you to the same set of information as the create contact screen, allowing you to add, change or remove details. Remember to save any changes you make.
  • To delete a contact, hold press on the contact and tap ‘delete’.

How to add and manage a contact group or room
  • In the People Hub, swipe to the screen labelled ‘together’
  • To add a group or room, tap the ‘+’ icon and select either ‘Group’ or ‘Room’. You’ll be prompted to name the group or room. Type in a name then tap save.
  • Within the group or room, tap the ‘+’ icon to add contacts to it.
  • Remember to save any changes you make by tapping the disk icon.

What you can do with a Room
Rooms are the more versatile version of  Groups with a focus on sharing content. Here you can scroll through various pages:
  • Chat allows you to conduct discussions with Room members
  • Calendar allows you to share appointments and events
  • Photos is an album for member photos
  • Notes allows you to create shared notes and checklists via the OneNote app.
How to merge contacts
  • To merge a contact with another, open one of the contacts by tapping on them in your contacts list
  • Tap the link icon which resembles a chain, it may have a number within the icon indicating the number of possible linkable profiles the phone has automatically detected.
  • Here you’ll see one or more lists showing suggested contacts to link to the current profile and possibly contacts already linked to it. You can tap on any of the suggested profiles to link them to the current one, tap on the currently linked profiles to un-link them or tap ‘choose a contact’ to select a specific profile from your entire contacts list to link instead.

How to adjust account settings
  • From the People Hub, tap the ellipsis icon (...) in the bottom right tap ‘settings’
  • Here you can tap ‘filter my contact list’ to check which accounts you want the phone to show contacts from
  • In the main page you can choose how to sort you contacts list (First name, Surname etc.)
  • Scrolling to the bottom of the main page shows you the list of accounts you have added (here you can also add new accounts).
  • To adjust the settings of a particular account, tap on the account you want to edit. The settings will vary depending on the account.
