Microsoft Surface RT update brings performance and battery improvements

The Microsoft Surface RT's battery life is definitely one of the tablet's stronger points, but this hasn't stopped Microsoft releasing a battery and performance update just weeks after its release
Microsoft’s Surface RT may have fallen prey to mixed reviews, but we have no doubt many of you have gone and bought one anyway and we don’t blame you, it’s an exciting platform that's only going to get better. The first signs of this inevitable improvement come in the form of an update from Microsoft that promises to improve the battery life, which in all fairness was never bad to begin with.

The report over at Microsoft-News indicates the update, KB 2756872, will also offer some performance improvements in Windows 8 applications and the Start screen, not to mention improved audio and video playback and compatibility across apps and drivers. These are all things which we found hindered performance in our review.

If you want to force the update onto your Surface RT, swipe in from the left, tap settings, then PC settings. Scroll to the bottom of the list of options and select Windows Update. The update should install once your Surface RT is reset.

Microsoft-News report that it has experienced performance improvements since installing the update, specifically with Xbox music and scrolling. We’ve installed the update on our Surface, if we notice anything drastic, we’ll let you know.
