LGOptimus Black and Samsung Replenish Shots - Coming to Boost mobiles

We've heard that LG's Optimus Black will be coming to yet another carrier, and the Samsung Replenish will soon find a home away from Sprint, with both models on-track for joining Boost Mobile's stable of Androids. Considering it only has three such selections at the moment, taking on two more will go a long way towards giving it a decent spread of handsets. We still don't have any new information on the release plans for the pair to share with you, but now we've got a couple press shots showing off what the Black and Replenish will look like when they do make their way to Boost.

There's nothing surprising to see here, but at least having these images now helps to confirm what we've heard about Boost's plans for carrying these Androids. We're expecting them both for sometime in the first half of 2012, but we'll all have to wait just a little longer for something more definite.

DigiTimes launching : Smaller 7-inch iPad 2012

According to DigiTimes, Asian supply chain sources are claiming that Apple is cooking up a 7.85″ iPad for the 4th quarter of 2012 to fight competition from smaller tablets, such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire. The article claims that Apple is “likely” to launch the smaller tablet several months after the next iPad 3, which is expected to launch at the end of the first quarter of 2012.
“In order to cope with increasing market competition including the 7-inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and the launch of large-size smartphones from handset vendors, Apple has been persuaded into the development of 7.85-inch iPads.”
Apple will supposedly be purchasing the smaller 7.85″ panels from LG Display and AU Optronics, and begin production of the smaller iPad at the end of Q2 of 2012.
Steve Jobs shot down rumors of a 7-inch iPad saying that the screen would be ”too small to express the software.” However, news of a smaller iPad has been in the rumor mill ever since the announcement of the Kindle Fire, which many have claimed as the first real challenge to Apple’s dominance of the tablet industry.
We’ll keep you posted as more info (and rumors) emerge.

Google announces Android 4.0.3 is coming up

Today Google announced  Android 4.0.3, an incremental release of the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) platform. The new release includes a variety of optimizations and bug fixes for phones and tablets, as well as a small number of new APIs for developers. The new API level is 15.
Some of the new APIs in Android 4.0.3 include:
  • Social stream API in Contacts provider:
  •  Applications that use social stream data such as status updates and check-ins can now sync that data with each of the user’s contacts, providing items in a stream along with photos for each. This new API lets apps show users what the people they know are doing or saying, in addition to their photos and contact information.
  • Calendar provider enhancements. Apps can now add color to events, for easier tracking, and new attendee types and states are now available.
  • New camera capabilities. Apps can now check and manage video stabilization and use QVGA resolution profiles where needed.
  • Accessibility refinements. Improved content access for screen readers and new status and error reporting for text-to-speech engines.
  • Incremental improvements in graphics, database, spell-checking, Bluetooth, and more.
For a complete overview of what’s new in the platform, see the Android 4.0.3 API Overview.
